Rules

This competition is based on the honor system; we expect that the participants will use their common sense in making this a fair competition and adhere to the rules set for the competition. Strict adherence to the rules is required to ensure the fairness of the competition. If you need clarification on an issue, please consult one of the Case Competition Officials. Any doubts or disputes will ultimately be cleared with the Steering Committee, which has supreme authority in all matters related to the rules and the competition.

 Case Preparation

§1

Each team prepares and presents one case solution during the competition according to the case given. Please respect, in all that you do, you maintain an overall spirit of sportsmanship.

 

§2

Any questions regarding the case given must be addressed on the CBS Case Competition Blog. All answers will be distributed to all teams via the blog. The address to the blog is www.cbscasecompetition2010.blogspot.com. It is the responsibility of each team to read the blog.

 

§3

The teams have 32 hours before hand-in of their executive summary and slides to be used in their presentation.

 

§4

Each team is allowed to bring an unlimited number of textbooks and reference material items, and computers. Reference material items are defined as any form of notes, compendiums/readers, collections of articles and the like.

 

§5

The presentation is not to be discussed with anyone outside the team. The team does NOT include the faculty host.

 

§6

The case is to be solved in the preparation room. During the preparation all case material must remain in the preparation room. This includes, but is not limited to, the case itself, the presentation, etc.

 

Presentation

§7

Presentations must be made in English using Microsoft PowerPoint 2007. The teams may use notes and/or cue cards during the presentations, as they feel comfortable. Cue cards will be available in the preparation room during the case preparation.

 

§8

Each participating team will receive one copy (hand-out) of their presentation after having handed in their presentation to the Case Competition Officials.

 

§9

Each team will be given access to a preparation room for one and a half hour the night before the preliminary round and 35 minutes of practice time in the morning of the preliminary round.

 

§10

Each team presents their case solution in the preliminary round of presentations. From this round three teams will qualify for a final round of presentations of which one team is elected the winner. The two remaining finalists will not be ranked.

 

§11

In the preliminary round each presentation will consist of a 20 minutes presentation and 10 minutes of Q&A. In the final round each presentation will consist of a 20 minutes presentation and 15 minutes of Q&A. Signs for five minutes and one minute remaining will be shown to the presenting team.

 

§12

The three finalists will present the same presentations as used in the preliminary round (no slide modification) and be allowed 35 minutes of additional preparation time before presentation in the final round.

 

§13

The presentation in the preliminary round will not count in the evaluation of the presentation in the final round.

 

§14

The teams are not allowed to watch any of the other teams' presentations in the preliminary round. Furthermore, the finalists are not allowed to watch any of the other finalists' presentations preceding their own.

 

§15

Faculty Advisors are allowed to attend the presentation of all teams in the preliminary round, and all the presentations in the final round. However, ones a faculty advisor enters the preliminary room he/she cannot leave until after the final presentation. Or communicate with his/her group until after the final round (should the group qualify).

 

§16

All materials produced during the CBS Case Competition are the rightful property of CBS Case Competition.

 

§17

Any violation of the rules above will result in immediate termination and disqualification of the team. Any decision of termination and disqualification is final.

 

Practicalities

§18

CBS Case Competition provides each team with one PC with Windows and Microsoft Office 2007 in their preparation room.

 

§19

The teams are allowed to use all Internet resources including the online resources accessible through the CBS Library, located on the internet address http://www.cbs.dk/bibliotek/fjernadgang_1 in order to research and prepare their case solution. Passwords and usernames will be provided during the case week. 

 

§20

It is not allowed to make any installations on the computer provided by CBS Case Competition.

 

§21 

The CBS Case Competition Officials will assist the teams with all computer related issues, but teams will not be given more time for case preparation in the event of technical problems with the PCs.

 

§22 

Each team will have one printer at their disposal in their preparation room. CBS Case Competition provides 500 sheets of paper and one ink cartridge. The printer will be connected to the PC provided by the CBS Case Competition. If connected to any of the teams own PCs, the CBS Case Competition Officials will no longer be held responsible for the printer.
